Why is Zanzibar worth visiting?

Zanzibar is rated as one of the best holiday destinations in Africa.

Zanzibar… Even just the name conjures up visions of a tropical paradise. evoking images of charming islands with fine-sand beaches, snow-white sand, and turquoise water. Nevertheless, the Zanzibar Archipelago has a lot more to offer than just lovely beaches and tranquil sunsets. These islands provide a wide variety of sounds, tastes, sights, and experiences that will revivify your body, feed your spirit, and inspire your creativity.

Without a doubt, Zanzibar is a tropical paradise. a great location to escape from it all. But in addition to being a top adventure and eco-tourism destination, it also boasts a fascinating history and a wealth of influences.

5 Reasons to visit Zanzibar Islands

1. Zanzibar beaches

Beautiful beaches, pleasant weather, and warm tropical waters may all be found in Zanzibar. The beautiful, warm water, coral reefs, and diverse marine life that characterise this archipelago make it an ideal snorkelling and diving destination. Zanzibar is tough to beat if you’re looking for relaxed days on white sand beaches. Zanzibar is the ideal beach resort, but it’s also a haven for culture vultures, adventurers, and environment enthusiasts.

2. Its unique culture, history and architecture

With some autonomy from Tanzania’s main territory, Zanzibar is still relatively underdeveloped. Strong Arabic, Indian, African, Persian, and European influences reflect the country’s colourful past and rich legacy. The island gains a lively depth from its distinctive history. You come across a fascinating fusion of several architectural forms in the mosques and homes while strolling through the cobbled lanes of mediaeval Stone Town’s old district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Historic houses and palaces, including the old Turkish Baths, as well as bustling bazaars, market stalls, and stores all overpower the senses with their vitality and intricacy and reveal the city’s turbulent and lengthy history. The majority-Islamic culture of Zanzibar is reflected in both the residents’ way of life and the designs of everything from clothing and furniture to jewellery and handicrafts. Keep an eye out for the renowned teak Zanzibar doors with carvings. The Dhow Countries Music Academy is a fantastic place to gain a sense for the regional music genre known as Taarab, which combines traditional Swahili poetry, percussion, and rhythm with a wide range of Middle Eastern, African, Indian, and Western influences.

3. The exotic spices of Zanzibar

Due to the cultivation and processing of aromatic spices like cloves, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemongrass, and black pepper, Zanzibar Island is commonly known as the “Spice Island.” Visit spice plantations to learn about the cultivation, history, and culinary and medicinal use of these crops. Market street food and traditionally cooked dishes can be found by following the fragrances and tasting the excellent flavour combinations.

4. It’s a magical romantic getaway

It’s the perfect place to spice things up because it’s not just aromatic but also romantic. The archipelago has some of the most stunning resorts and locations in the world, so how can it not be the ideal location for romance?

It’s the perfect place to take long walks on the beach, relax beside the water and drink cocktails as the sunsets. Zanzibar is, of course, a popular honeymoon and wedding destination.

5. Rich flora and fauna – red colobus monkeys in Jozani Forest, butterflies, dolphins, tortoises and turtles

The Red Colobus Monkey, one of the rarest primates in Africa, may be found in the Jozani Forest Reserve, which is another excellent incentive to visit Zanzibar. These island-specific monkeys are slowly emerging from the verge of extinction thanks to conservation initiatives. The island’s only National Park, which includes the mature woods of Jozani, is home to a wide range of fascinating plants and animals in addition to hundreds of various species of birds, butterflies, and other birds.

A sustainable butterfly farming programme has been developed by the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, a community effort that is located 1 km from Jozani Forest Park. The project seeks to run one of Africa’s largest butterfly sanctuaries and export butterfly pupae in order to generate cash for the villagers and protect the local forest. Hundreds of butterflies, all of which are endemic to Zanzibar, can be seen flying freely in the beautiful, netted gardens where visitors may take part in an interactive tour with one of the educated guides.
